About
Digital Fundraising is in Philip King's blood. A proud father, Philip King strives to pass on the spirit of philanthropy from one generation to the next.
In 2006, the Artez President & CEO enlisted his two young boys, Adam and Sam, to help fundraise for the construction of a well in Ghana. "We travelled with other close friends en masse to meet with the village elders, and the boys were just blown away," says Philip. Since then they’ve made a habit of making micro-loans with some of their allowance on www.kiva.org.
Digital fundraising is nothing new for the Harvard graduate, who spearheaded online initiatives way back in 1999 in his previous role as the first-ever “VP of E-Business” at the United Way of Greater Toronto. “I am so excited that we have already helped charities around the world raise over half-a-billion dollars online,” he says. “But there’s so much more we can do working in partnership with our fantastic clients.”
Born and raised in Tennessee, Philip received his BA from Harvard--where he acted in a play with Matt Damon--and his MBA from the University of Toronto--where he co-founded the Community Service Club with James Appleyard, who would later become Artez’s Chairman & Chief Operating Officer.
Philip loves to speak at conferences around the world, is an author in several published books on ePhilanthropy, writes the online fundraising column for the American magazine Fundraising Success, and is the host of the Digital Fundraising Podcast on iTunes.
Guilty pleasures include watching the reality show Survivor, and loving gadgets (like the Nike+nano) a little too much!
