James Appleyard, BA, Msc, MBA joined Artez in 2005 as Chief Financial Officer and was appointed to the Artez Board of Directors in the same year. In 2008, he became Chairman and Chief Operating Officer. In 2010, he maintained his position as Chairman and was appointed as Chief Executive Officer.
James has enjoyed a distinguished and successful career in both business and academia. He is a graduate of the University of Toronto-Trinity College, the London School of Economics and the University of Toronto - Rotman School of Management.
His business career spans increasingly senior positions ranging from Director, International Business Programs for the Canadian Institute of International Affairs to Vice President, Business Development and Investor Relations with Home Capital Group Inc. Other assignments included business development and corporate roles with advanced technology companies.
He has a passion for undergraduate education and from 2004 to 2011 he has served as an Assistant Professor (part-time) with the Department of Management, University of Toronto Mississauga. He has a knack for spotting the best and the brightest, and several of our top talents at Artez were previously his students.
Philanthropy and community involvement play an important role in his life. He is a director of The George Gardiner Museum of Ceramic Art, Toronto and Past Chairman and a director of the Canadian Merit Scholarship Foundation.
His wife and three children, and his ongoing search for trophy pike in Northern Ontario balance his very active roles at Artez and in the community.
