Using Social Media for Social Good

Invest in Kids, a national charity with a mission to transform the way Canadian parents are educated and supported, has created and launched a customized web community designed to support professionals working with First Nations families. In the unique world in which they live, separated by distance and often experiencing isolation, this professional community is now growing into a thriving online community - the Professional Connection. The concept was to create a community of practice where professionals and paraprofessionals would effectively connect, learn and share. It has proven to be a huge success, giving professionals in even the most remote communities the opportunity to access teleconferences, webinars, discussion forums, videopodcasts, online learning, and most importantly - each other.

Brent Lowe-Bernie, President, comScore Media Metrix Canada

The Digital Consumer: What Is Being Consumed and By Whom?

Your digital fundraising success will depend on how well you understand how consumers are consuming online media. This presentation will give you an in-depth look at what is being consumed and by whom and more importantly, how consumers' digital behaviour affect your online fundraising activities. Brent Lowe-Bernie will provide a complete breakdown of the latest trends and perspectives to help you accelerate your traditional and mobile online campaigns.

Maggie Fox, CEO, Social Media Group

The Art and Science of Scaling Social Media for Fundraisers

Bringing together earned social media and paid media, when done correctly, can generate a perfect storm of credibility and reach - in many ways, the Holy Grail of the social web. Earned media is incredibly expensive to generate, and it's difficult to get it to a mass audience, regardless of how credible it is. Paid media reaches tons of eyeballs, but does it really win hearts and minds? SMG has worked with clients on a number of very successful programs to marry the two using social ad platforms. Results include average click-through rates of over .8% and as high as 4.11% and re-ignition of conversations around important issues. While we can't completely open the kimono on this innovative new approach, Maggie will share high-level insights and intelligence about how some of the most socially innovative organizations in the world have cracked a new form of public dialogue.

Mobile Leadership Fireside Chat

In 2009, PayPal witnessed a seven-fold increase in mobile payments volume. This rate of growth is unprecedented and makes us wonder if e-commerce is merely the prologue for an even larger wave of mobile commerce.

With consumers rapidly adopting smartphones and demonstrating an appetite for spending using their mobile phone, mobile giving presents a huge opportunity for nonprofits. Never before has a multi-channel strategy been more critical.

Darrell MacMullin, General Manager of PayPal Canada and Deb Hall, Vice President, Mobile, Artez InterActive will have a collaborative discussion on mobile giving. They will discuss what they see happening right now in mobile technology and how the payments landscape is evolving along with donor behaviour. They will also discuss the broader trends enabled by mobile and how giving may change in the next five years, and beyond.

Moderator: Claire Kerr, Client Delight & Special Projects Manager, Artez Interactive

Breeda McClew, International Run Advisor, The Terry Fox Foundation

Half a Billion Dollars...One Step at a Time

Terry Fox's Marathon of Hope in 1980 heralded a new age in fundraising. Terry was an innovator, attempting an athletic feat few able-bodied athletes would even consider, and then upping the ante by making it about raising funds for a disease that was still referred to as "The Big C".

In keeping with the approach of its founder, The Terry Fox Run is an innovative event, all-inclusive, non-competitive, with no corporate sponsorship, incentives or fundraising minimums.  And it is not just Canadians who are moved to make a difference by Terry's example.  His story has been introduced to the citizens of more than 60 countries, providing an example that is powerful, inspirational and motivational.  Breeda McClew will share her insights into how and why Terry's story continues to be embraced on an international scale.

Mike Kirkpatrick, Director, Marketing, Canadian Cancer Society

Using YouTube To Tell Your Story

The Join the Fight! campaign was developed to help re-introduce the Canadian Cancer Society with a bolder spirited image that could break-through in a highly competitive field of charitable cancer organizations and inspire Canadians to join the fight against cancer. Its creative hallmark of emotional, unrehearsed testimonials from real "fighters" - cancer patients, survivors and caregivers - talking to cancer as if it was a real person, showcases the power of online video for communicating the case for support of the important work of organizations in the nonprofit sector. The short film from this campaign, entitled "Fight!" went on to win the 4th Annual DoGooder Nonprofit Video Award - Large Organization in 2010 from a field of over 650 international submissions. Get a behind-the-scenes look at how this campaign evolved and learn how you can leverage online video to help meet your organization objectives.
This session will cover:

•    Creative considerations for successful online video.
•    Getting the most out of YouTube's Nonprofit Program channel.
•    Tools and techniques for tracking your online video initiatives.

Put some Case Studies in your pocket before you Go-Go!

We've been watching digital fundraising campaigns all year long in preparation for bringing you the finest of the finest! In this lively session, we'll take you on a whirlwind case studies tour around the globe - You won't need your passport, but you should bring your notepad.

We've planned a session that's jam-packed with real-world action items you can apply to your own organization. After every case study, we'll highlight what made the campaign so successful, and we'll arm you with great tips from those who have gone before us. This is your opportunity to explore how other organizations have leveraged the web to engage donors, promote online activism, and rally support for their great causes… And because it wouldn't be an honest exploration without a few mistakes, we haven't forgotten one or two "fail" projects!

This is a great opportunity to explore how charities who want to invest in the web and social media can make data-driven choices that make sense for their organizations. Get ready to load up on case studies a-go-go!

Multi Channel Approach To Finding Monthly Donors

Are you often asked why you aren't targeting younger donors? And why aren't you "doing more" online? The most effective way to reach out and find new monthly donors in the digital age is not about focusing on one particular vehicle. This session looks at how organizations are adopting a multi channel and staged approach to find prospects and then turn them into loyal, monthly donors using a range of direct response methods.
