Friends in high places

Carrie Milne likes to keep friends in high places. Among them is 10-year-old Wannalee – which translates to ‘Queen of the Forest’ – a female elephant she trained and cared for at Thai Elephant Conservation Center in the province of Lampang, Thailand.

“Every morning at 6 a.m. we would go and pick up our elephants and bring them back to the central area and give them a bath,” says the Queen’s University science graduate. For her efforts, she was recognized as a certified "mahout", or elephant caretaker.

These days, Carrie still works on large projects requiring a lot of time and attention – but she’s turned her attention from elephants to Artez clients. Carrie takes care of sales and marketing, providing event coordination as well as sales and client care support. In addition to her BSc, she also completed a fundraising management certificate at Ryerson University.
