There’s a good reason why Harp Athwal puts in extra hours during the week to take a few Fridays off. The IT and data centre manager is a volunteer team lead at Habitat for Humanity, an international non-profit operation that builds homes for the needy.

“It has been an extremely rewarding project for me, to see a flat piece of land form into a townhouse block that will soon be occupied,” says the University of Waterloo graduate in electrical engineering and management studies. Installing drywall is nothing new for Harp, who spent his summers during high school working odd construction jobs. At Artez, Harp manages data centre services and office infrastructure, ensuring systems are in top-notch operation.
