More than meets the eye

From 9 to 5, Artez web developer Kiyan Azarbar writes code to support online fundraising tools – but there’s more to this unassuming techie than meets the eye. Kiyan is also into languages of the non-programming sort.

“I adore the sounds of language, and I am drawn to explore new ones the way ‘musicphiles’ seek out new finds in music,” he says. No wonder, then, that Kiyan is currently working on his PhD in linguistics at University of Toronto. But that’s not all. In 2000, the Canadian Fencing Federation ranked him tenth nationally and third in Ontario. Perhaps Kiyan’s multiple talents can be explained by the following self-description: “I am incapable of being just casually interested in anything.”
